AMINA S. WOODS, PHD - EXPERT IN IMMUNOLOGY,PHARMACOLOGY, MOLECULAR SCIENCE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Pikesville, MD — Amina S. Woods, Ph.D., is being recognized by Continental Who's Who as an Exceptional Bioscience Professional in the Medical Research field, acknowledging her excellence in immunology, pharmacology, and molecular sciences research and education.

With over 50 years of experience in her field, Amina S. Woods, Ph.D. has spent the last two decades of her career as a lab director at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), headquartered in Bethesda, MD. She has expertise in immunology, science, mentoring, pharmacology, and education. In her current role at NIH, Ms. Woods performs research involving biomolecules that are important in understanding the biology of addiction.

In pursuit of a career as a scientist, Ms. Woods earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Loyola College in 1972. She continued her education at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, a teaching hospital, completing a Master of Science degree in pathology in 1975. She received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in pharmacology and molecular sciences from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1992. She also undertook post-doctoral training in oncology immunology at Johns Hopkins.

Among her professional memberships and affiliations, Ms. Woods is associated with the NIH and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). She also actively supports organizations in her local community.

Ms. Woods has received awards and accolades for her work, including the 2011 NIDA Investigator “Woman Scientist Achievement Award.”

In her spare time, Ms. Woods enjoys French literature and art.

In light of this recognition, Ms. Woods would like to thank her dear husband, Robin, for his support. She also wishes to acknowledge her mentor, Professor Paul Lietman.
