The doctor earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Jazz Performance from Frostburg State University. He then attended Midwestern University in Chicago receiving a Master of Biomedical Sciences and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in South Carolina. He then completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Inspira Health Network in Vineland, New Jersey. 

Board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, the doctor practices in Cumberland, Maryland specializing in women’s health, particularly the female reproductive system, pregnancy and childbirth. He explained that as an obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, he can treat a number of health issues related to the vagina, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes and breasts. Dr Ackerman can also treat women during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postpartum period. In this specialty, doctors focus on reproductive care from puberty through adulthood.

Dr. Ackerman asserts that he provides a holistic approach to obstetrics and gynecology. He performs minimally invasive robotic surgeries in gynecology, and all medical services from conception to the post-partum period. Dedicated to providing the latest advancements in the field, the doctor is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists; a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and the American Academy of Osteopathy.

Aside from his professional pursuits and valuing service to others, Dr. Ackerman is a Free Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite. He is also a Shriner, attending the Ali Ghan Temple in Cumberland, Maryland.
