
New York, NY — Darrell L. Lauer, CCC-SLP is being recognized
by Continental Who’s Who as a Trusted Professional in Music & Therapy and
for his outstanding contributions as a Speech Pathologist and Professional
Singer.
Mr. Darrell L. Lauer is a renowned voice specialist and
professional singer, having devoted five decades selling out recitals,
performing opera all around the world, and over four decades working with
performers. He is also a classical tenor, specializing in oratorio, recitals,
chamber music and opera, voice building and vocal rehabilitation, as well as
work with professionals pre & post-surgery or if possible, to help avoid
surgery. Relying upon Mr. Lauer’s voice-building techniques, his voice students
have performed in European opera, U.S. regional opera and theater, Broadway,
off-Broadway, and around the world, in rap/rock concert tours. His vocal
therapy has had success with many professional artists, including singers,
actors, voiceover specialists, and television and radio performers, classroom
teachers of all kinds, pastors, rabbis, and lawyers as well. As a classical
tenor, Mr. Lauer is an Oratorio Specialist but has sung for decades in opera,
early music, new music, chamber music, and in numerous recitals – on three
continents. In his current capacity, he is giving voice instruction at The Belz
School of Jewish Music at Yeshiva University where he has been since 1996.
In light of his academic achievements, Mr. Lauer obtained his Bachelor of Arts
in Psychology and Bachelor of Music both from Ohio Wesleyan University. In
1970, Mr. Lauer graduated with his Master of Music in Voice Performance from
Michigan State University. He then went on to earn his Master of Science degree
in Speech Language Pathology from Hunter College where he received the High
Honor Student Award in 1993. He also became a Certified Voice Therapist. To
further his professional development, Mr. Lauer dedicated fifteen years
collaborating with Oren Brown one of the leading voice therapists in America
treating a variety of voice disorders. He completed a six-month internship at
Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, where he provided diagnostic and
therapeutic services to adults including post-surgical laryngeal rehabilitation
and voice restoration as well as neurological and common voice disorders.
Throughout his distinguished teaching career, Mr. Lauer has given voice
instructions at Concordia College for nine years and Nassau Community College
for a one-year guest appointment. He has also taught singing at Hofstra
University for twenty-three years where he gave classes in vocal pedagogy, and
vocal repertoire and diction. Additionally, he has given master classes in
American song at The Norwegian State Academy of Music and The North Carolina
School of the Arts. He has been an instructor in music at Fordham University
and St. Nersess’s Armenian Seminary.
An active member of his field, Mr. Lauer maintains active memberships and
affiliations with the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the
National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
When he is not working, Mr. Lauer is an avid tennis player and devotes his time
to his local club. He also enjoys reading books about World War II and
mysteries. Furthermore, Mr. Lauer served as the co-president of his tenants
association in New York City.
A proud family man, Mr. Lauer is married to his wife, Mrs. Kristin Lauer for 53
years. They have one child.
Mr. Lauer dedicates this honorable recognition in memory of his mentor Mr. Oren
Brown, co-founder of voice therapy in the United States and was on the faculty
at The Julliard School of Music.
