GARY L. BERNARDINI, MD, PHD, FAHA - NEUROLOGIST

Norwalk CT- Gary L. Bernardini, MD, PhD, FAHA, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Pinnacle Lifetime Achiever in the field of Medicine as a Neurologist.

Recognized for more than twenty-two years of professional experience, Dr. Bernardini is well-known for his influential roles and clinical research studies. He currently serves as a professor of clinical neurology at Weill Cornell Medical Center, inaugural chairmen of the Department of Neurology at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ), and attending neurologist at Weill Cornell Medical Center. 

Dr. Bernardini’s areas of expertise include general neurology, vascular neurology, stroke, and neurocritical care. He has served as the principal investigator for numerous studies, including topics on subarachnoid hemorrhage and the use of newer neurointerventional treatments to treat acute ischemic stroke.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Bernardini received an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, doctoral degree from the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School. He completed post education as a neurology resident at NYP Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center and a neurological critical care fellow at NYP Columbia University Medical Center.

Remaining abreast of the latest developments, Dr. Bernardini is a fellow of the American Heart Association’s (FAHA) Stroke Council and a member of the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS), Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN), American Neurological Society (ANA), American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Society of Sigma Xi, and the Scientific Research Association.

Dr. Bernardini’s expertise and volubility resulted in invitations to present at more than 65 lectures on the facets of stroke care. He has shared his breadth of knowledge in numerous clinical journals such as Neurology, Stroke, The Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases and The Journal of Vascular Surgery. Some of his work includes “Cerebral autoregulation in acute SAH. The more we know the better?” and “Safety of thrombolysis for acute stroke patients with diabetes and prior stroke”.

Outside of work, Dr. Bernardini enjoys golfing, playing guitar, playing music in a band, and spending time with his daughter.
