Joel has been recognized with the Pro Bono volunteer for the Northeast NJ Legal Services and Volunteer Lawyer for Justice in the TLC program representing the victims of 9-11, and was also the Recipient of a Public Justice Achievement Award In 2004. Furthermore, Joel was chosen as a Judge for the National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition in 2007 and 2008, and has been named to New Jersey Super Lawyers among the top 5% of the lawyers State of New Jersey from 2007 to 2010.

Joel earned his JD from New York Law School, and also holds a BA from the University of Cincinnati. He is certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey.
