PEARL MARIE MURPHY, RN - STAFF NURSE
West Portsmouth, OH - Pearl Marie Murphy, RN is being
recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Nurse in the field of medicine as
a Staff Nurse with Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Southern Ohio Medical Center is a 222-bed 501not-for-profit
hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio, providing emergency and surgical care, including
a wide range of health care services to the communities of West Portsmouth,
Ohio. Southern Ohio Medical Center is a facility with a staff of more than
3,080 employees and a staff of more than 260 board-certified and board-eligible
physicians and specialists dedicated to keeping their community healthy.
Pearl Marie Murphy is a staff nurse with SOMC since 1989, assisting with the
care of patients in attendance at the time. Staff Nurses work under the
direction of a Charge Nurse, where they are assigned patients to care for and
perform tasks such as assessing and planning nursing care requirements,
monitoring and administering medication and intravenous infusions, taking
patient samples and pulses, temperatures and blood pressures and writing up
records. Ms. Murphy has 40 years as a staff nurse behind her, specializing in
alcohol and drug rehabilitation, recovery room and medical surgical unit nurse,
and a psychiatric nurse.
Growing up, Ms. Murphy’s mother had a friend that was a Registered Nurse and
she was her nurse when she had her tonsils taken out. Her mother also worked in
a hospital as a nursing aid at the start of her career, and retired as an
Electroenephgraphy Technician (EEG). Inspired by her Mom, Ms. Murphy attended
Scioto Technical College, where she came to be a Licensed Practical Nurse
in1973. She moved on to Hocking Technical College and earned her Associate of
Arts in Nursing in 1980. Following her Associates of Arts Degree Ms. Murphy
went on to study at Ohio University for her Bachelor of Science in nursing
completing in 1989, the same year she started her career with Southern Ohio
Medical Center. She later became an
invited member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Ohio.
Ms. Pearl Marie Murphy would like to dedicate her success to her sister Twanta
Riley, nieces MeLody Singer, Kimberly Risner and Kilee Risner.
