Treva J. Powell, RN, has dedicated more than four decades to healthcare, building a multifaceted career encompassing nursing, quality assurance, risk management, regulatory compliance, and healthcare administration. Her extensive clinical and leadership experience reflects a longstanding commitment to compassionate patient care, safety, education, and continuous improvement.

Currently serving as RN MDS Coordinator which oversees medical reimbursement compliance with federal programs at Avir in Monahans, The MDS Coordinator is tasked with regulatory reporting, and individualized care planning.  In this broad-spectrum position, Ms. Powell’s added expertise includes Medicare and Medicaid regulations, root cause analysis, accident investigation and reconstruction, quality auditing, utilization review, and case management helps her provide excellent, proficient compliance to the various medical categories. 

Ms. Powell's career has encompassed emergency and trauma nursing, critical care, neonatal intensive care, behavioral health, hospice and palliative care, home health, dialysis, correctional healthcare, long term care, and emergency preparedness. She previously served as an RN Charge Nurse with Creative Solutions at Sienna Rehab Facility, where her responsibilities included risk evaluation, QAPI, and MDS coordination. Her experience also includes service as an RN Field Medic and Case Manager with CORE Occupational and as a Veterans Liaison and Forensic Charge Nurse with Visiting Angels.

Throughout her career, Ms. Powell has held numerous leadership positions, including Director of Nursing, Director of Compliance and Risk Management, Health Services Administrator, House Supervisor, QAPI Coordinator, MDS Coordinator, and Director of Facilities, Risk Management, Safety and QAPI. She has developed and strengthened quality improvement policies and procedures, conducted regulatory audits, performed root cause analyses, and developed recommendations to enhance patient and workplace safety.

Education has remained central to Ms. Powell's professional journey. She completed her registered nursing education at Methodist School of Nursing in Lubbock, Texas, following nursing prerequisites at South Plains College. Her additional studies include EMT and paramedic training at Lubbock Christian University, critical care nursing and registered massage therapy studies at Odessa College, coding through Texas State University, and safety training through the West Texas Safety Training Center. She is completing her certification as a RAC-CT. Advanced in MDS coordination and holds credentials including Registered Nurse, Certified EMT/Paramedic, Certified Safety, BLS and CPR for adults, children, and infants, and AED training.

Ms. Powell is affiliated with ANA, AAPACN, TNA, and AMA. Her academic achievements include five Academic Achievement Awards from Methodist School of Nursing and an academic scholarship from the Ladies' Auxiliary at South Plains University.

A dedicated educator and mentor, Ms. Powell has served as a preceptor and instructor for nurses, EMTs, paramedics, healthcare personnel, law enforcement professionals, and others. During her early EMS career, she served as a Field Training Officer and BCLS and ACLS skills instructor. She credits the many individuals who have supported her throughout her career, particularly MDS Coordinator instructor Dustin Finley, who recognized how her extensive professional background could strengthen her work in MDS coordination.

Outside of healthcare, Ms. Powell enjoys visual arts, pyrography, glass etching, and exercise when able. She previously coached an adolescent girls soccer team and enjoys spending time with Ripley, her three-year-old French Bulldog.

Guided by a philosophy of compassionate, patient centered care, Ms. Powell believes quality, safety, accountability, education, and regulatory compliance are essential to effective healthcare. She remains committed to continuous learning and interdisciplinary collaboration while sharing the knowledge gained throughout her extensive career with younger nurses and healthcare professionals. As one of her favorite tasks, Ms. Powell continues to volunteer as a preceptor for nursing students.
