field of nursing, Valerie LaVerne Canty is commended for her outstanding
contributions to the nursing industry. Throughout her illustrious career,
Valerie has attained extensive expertise in the areas of rehabilitation
nursing. Lending a compassionate and caring approach to those she serves,
Valerie is known for her dedication and commitment to her patients. When asked
her advice to newcomers in the industry, Valerie states to "make sure that your
heart is in the right place - You have to be passionate about what you're doing
because your patients need you." Stressing the importance of taking caring of
your physical and mental wellbeing including vitamins, exercise and spiritual
health, Valerie attributes her success to her "resiliency to change and getting
the right people on board."
An esteemed member of The Association of Rehabilitation
Nursing, Canty has been published in several publications including Nursing
Management and Nursing Spectrum.
In recognition of her professional accolades, Valerie was
named the recipient of the 100 ExtraOrdinary Nurses Recognition. In addition,
Valerie was named Nurse of the Year at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network.
When she is not working, Valerie enjoys exercising and
cooking, as well as reading and traveling.
Canty dedicates this recognition in loving memory of her
mother, Rosemary Clements, and her vibrant father, George William Clements, Sr.
